Sight words (also called
as Dolch Word list) are commonly used
words that young children are encouraged to memorize as a whole by sight, so
that they can automatically recognize these words in print within three seconds
without having to use any strategies to decode. Sight words don’t follow the
standards rules of phonics or the six syllable types. These words are used very
often and are considered a crucial part of early education.
There are many techniques
you can use to help your child memorize these words.
Make a chart at home, let
your child help you in making the chart, get his suggestions, make it colorful
and something which can be read daily.
Once your child is used to
reading and understanding these sight words, his/her confidence will increase
and he/she will be interested in reading further. Following are few links where
